Building upon the strong foundations of the Deeside Decarbonisation Forum, the FAST programme seeks to unlock the region’s potential to support green growth.
Aiming to benefit businesses, industrialists, energy suppliers, infrastructure providers and academia, the project includes workstreams across energy mapping, decarbonisation roadmaps, developing a land and energy investment prospectus and maximising knowledge transfer across the delivery chain, from early years education (STEM) to organisational collaboration.
In early 2022, a consortium of pro-active organisations founded the Deeside Decarbonisation Forum, to help local organisations on their net zero transition through facilitation of networking, knowledge sharing and support of projects. This forum has developed quickly over the past 24 months, providing a strong platform for local decarbonisation. It has, however, identified a number of gaps needed to develop our region’s net zero future.
The FAST project aims to incorporate the already-established Deeside decarbonisation forum, and target the development of a bespoke deliverable roadmap, to inform and empower all sectors to catalyse and accelerate the transition to net zero, through the SMART sustainable factory programme delivered by AMRC Cymru.
AMRC Cymru intends to collaborate with, build on, integrate and deliver the STEM and green-skills frameworks that already exist for Flintshire and Wales to ensure the County can meet its skills and supply needs, and in turn, through a trained workforce, guarantee Zero Carbon emissions by 2050.

Decarbonisation roadmap
We have a national decarbonisation target of reaching net zero carbon by 2050. Flintshire is home to a significant volume of industry and manufacturing, where there is a great opportunity to adapt to a low or zero carbon future and continue to grow.
Our team of sustainability experts can help your organisation develop a decarbonisation strategy that works for your business, including:
- Creating a bespoke decarbonisation roadmap
- Identifying energy and carbon saving opportunities
- Performance benchmarking against similar industries
- Reviewing asset energy performance
We can tailor a support package to best suit your requirements via a deep dive or light-touch assessment.
STEM and green skills
We're supporting Flintshire schools, colleges and businesses with STEM, green skills and training initiatives, to help equip the region with the skills required to drive decarbonisation and growth.
Through local engagement, FAST will see the development of an integrated STEM approach for Flintshire. This will include delivery of training across a range of topics including:
- Renewables
- Carbon Capture
- Hydrogen, Transport
- Nuclear
- Softer skills as part of pre-employment training
The suite of training and knowledge sharing initiatives will be tailored to audiences across primary, secondary and further education, as well as for employees already in work, and will include a blend of online and face to face learning.
Whether you're looking for decarbonisation, or STEM and green skills support, the FAST team is here to help you achieve your goals.
