Overcoming the challenges for traditional cutting fluids at global metalworking conference

09 October 2015

Major challenges facing advanced manufacturers who rely on long established, traditional cutting fluids and how to overcome them will be among the issues discussed at TRAM 2015, the global metalworking industry's premier aerospace conference.

Speakers at the conference, which has transferred from Chicago to the UK this year, include Edward Jones, chief operating officer and technical director of Hangsterfer's, the leading developer and manufacturer of next generation cutting fluids.

Mr Jones will argue that many of the traditional fluids currently being used for machining critical and complex parts are going to become obsolete or require major reformulations, not least because of increasingly complicated environmental regulations.

He says that advanced cutting fluid technologies now available could not only answer that challenge, but also bring additional benefits in modern machining processes.

Further details have emerged about the content of other presentations by other leading speakers at the conference and exhibition, which takes place at the Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham, South Yorkshire on November 10 and 11

Axel Flaig, senior vice president for research and technology at Airbus, will look at the key technology streams currently being developed by researchers at Airbus and how they will be used in current and future Airbus products.

Jiro Osawa, chairman of OSG USA and technical managing director at cutting tool specialist OSG Corporation, will examine the contribution that diamond coatings have made to productivity when machining composites

The keynote speech at TRAM will be delivered by Dr Kevin T Slattery, Boeing Research and Technology's chief scientist for metals, ceramics, and mechanical parts.

Other speakers previously announced include Dr Gregory Hyatt, from machine tool manufacturer DMG MORI, Dr Timothy Armstrong, from leading speciality alloys and performance engineered products group Carpenter Technology Corporation and Peter Hammond, technical director of Metrology Software Products.

Some places are still available for delegates wishing to attend TRAM 2015 and a limited number of places are also available for exibitors.
