Ten fully-funded studentships are now available at the AMRC's new Industrial Doctoral Centre in Machining Science.

The IDC is a new collaboration between the AMRC with Boeing and the University of Sheffield Faculty of Engineering, supported by EPSRC. Beginning in Autumn 2011, the IDC will provide engineering doctorate (EngD) training with a focus on machining science.

Engineering graduates are now invited to apply for the first intake of ten research engineer studentships. Successful applicants will spend four years working alongside world-leading manufacturers on cutting-edge research solving real engineering problems. The studentships include tuition fees and a tax-free stipend of £14,790 per year.

Initial projects with Rolls-Royce cover technologies such as machining optimisation for jet turbine components, cryogenic machining, and 'design for repair'.

IDC students will also have the opportunity to work at the new Nuclear AMRC on projects such as extreme deep-hole drilling.
