AMRC renews support for Sheffield Bears

15 July 2013

Professor Keith Ridgway, research director of the AMRC with Boeing, has been presented with a Sheffield Bears shirt to mark the centre's continuing sponsorship of the prize-winning ice hockey team.

Sheffield Bears brings together students and staff from both the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University, including two AMRC engineers - John Eggington and Matthew Farnsworth.

The AMRC with Boeing has sponsored the team since 2012 from departmental community funds. The Bears enjoyed a strong season, with their second team winning the Division Two title, and the first team being crowned National Champions.

Club president Peter Phillips visited the AMRC Factory of the Future to mark continuing sponsorship for the 2013/14 season, beginning in October.

"The Bears feel that the relationship between their club and AMRC has been crucial in their success," said Phillips. "It has allowed the club to grow and allowed them to develop a strong infrastructure, from beginners to some of the best players in the country. This strong development program will hopefully produce the national champions of the future."
