The AMRC hosts 3D printing STEM event to enthuse the next generation of engineers
14 March 2018The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) has hosted (13th March 2018) 'I Love 3D Printing', a Year of Engineering STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) event designed by CREATE Education to inform and enthuse children who are the talent pipe-line to businesses in the UK.
Year 8 school children from around the Sheffield area took part in a variety of workshops including 3D printing, CAD (computer-aided design) and CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) and heard from cutting edge advanced manufacturing companies about 3D printing and the relevant career opportunities currently available, as well as potential future opportunities.
On the day there was also a tour of the AMRC and its MANTRA (MANufacturing TRAnsporter) lorry, a specially customised 14m HGV trailer, packed with the latest machinery and simulators, designed to give aspiring young engineers a hands-on experience with real cutting-edge technologies.
