Egypt’s Mansoura University seeks technical collaboration with the AMRC

Friday 17 March 2017, Sheffield, UK - Professor Ashraf Sewelam, Vice President of Mansoura University in Egypt, visited the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC).

The visit was to discuss potential collaboration between the two organisations, particularly in the fields of advanced manufacturing and materials.

Mansoura University is currently planning to establish a research centre for renewable energy in the city of Gamesa, in the Mediterranean.

The AMRC will benefit from the proximity of Mansoura to the renewable energy research centre and the end users of the technology being developed at AMRC.

Executive Dean of the AMRC Professor Keith Ridgway, Head of the AMRC Composites Group Mr. Richard Scaife, Composites Technical Lead Dr. Hassan El-Dessouky and Composite Centre Partnership Lead Hannah Tew welcomed Prof. Sewelam.

They gave an overview about the work of the AMRC followed by a tour of the AMRC’s centres and facilities. The focus was on how advanced material technology within the AMRC Composite Centre is being developed for use in the energy sector.

Prof. Sewelam also gave an overview about Mansoura University, including an update about the new Mansoura University Renewable Energy Centre, highlighting the importance of the Egyptian experts abroad and the benefit of cooperation with the AMRC and academic institutions all over the world.

According to Egyptian mores Prof. Sewelam presented the Mansoura University Plaque to Prof. Ridgway and team. At the end of the visit on behalf of Professor Kenawy, President of Mansoura University, Prof. Sewelam invited the AMRC team to visit Mansoura University for further face to face meeting and discussions, seeking to extend potential collaboration in the near future.

“We look forward to working together with Mansoura University and their industrial network on collaborative research projects based in the energy industry,” Dr. El-Dessouky said.
